Character Education in Clear Creek ISD

Character education teaches the habits of thought and deed that help people live and work together as families, friends, neighbors, communities and nations.

In CCISD, character education is approached comprehensively to include the emotional, intellectual and moral qualities of a person or group. The District offers multiple opportunities for students to learn about, discuss and enact positive social behaviors. Student leadership and involvement are essential for character education to become a part of a student's beliefs and actions.

CCISD’s Core Values

Character education is a learning process that enables students and adults in a school community to understand, care about and act on core ethical values. Core values form the attitudes and actions that are the hallmark of safe, healthy and informed communities that serve as the foundation of society. In CCISD, these core values are:

Work to improve your school, community and country

Play by the rules and consider the needs of others

What is Social, Emotional Learning (SEL)?

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) defines SEL as “the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”

For example, if students are taught that they should be caring but do not receive instruction on skills for HOW to demonstrate that they are caring, there is a disconnect between the standards of the core values and the behaviors.

There are several active programs in CCISD that are the fabric of character education in CCISD and promote Social Emotional Learning for all students.
